Austenitic Stainless Steel
Austenitic Stainless Steel are preferably used in situations in which higher corrosion resistance is required. They can also be used in applications in which good mechanical and heat resistance, as well as corrosion resistance, are required, besides other applications. They are non-magnetic and non-heat curable steels.
Typical applications are presented as follows:
AISI 304 – Because of its lower Carbon content, it is less susceptible to intercrystalline corrosion. Applications in food processing equipment, cryogenic containers.
AISI 309 – Good mechanical resistance and oxidation at high temperatures. Used in sulphurous atmospheres, equipment for chemical industry, parts for ovens, stoves, pumps etc.
AISI 310 – Resistant to oxidation up to temperatures of 1050 ̊C to 1100 ̊C and good stability at welding temperature. Parts of ovens, stoves, welding electrodes, etc.
AISI 316L – Improves temperature resistance and stability at welding temperature: equipment for the chemical and pulp and paper industry.
AISI 316TI – Its resistance to temperature and mechanical properties is improved by the addition of Ti. Used in equipment in the Oil industry.
AISI 317L – With high Mo and Mn content, it has better corrosion resistance than 316 and 316L. Applications in parts for prospection platforms and in the cellulose and paper industry.
AISI 321 – Ti stabilized steel, increases the resistance to intercrystalline corrosion during the welding process and in services of high temperatures avoiding the precipitation of Carbides. Suitable for applications requiring welding and equipment subject to intermittent heating between 425 ̊C and 900 ̊C.
AISI 347 – With Nb and Ta addition that increase resistance to intergranular corrosion. Also used in the manufacture of equipment subject to intermittent temperatures and requiring welding in the manufacturing process.
AISI 904L – Its high content of Ni (25%) and Cr (21%), makes it mainly used in the celullose and paper industry, manufacturing tanks and storage ducts for sulfuric and phosphoric acid.
Alloy 20cb3 - Austenitic stainless steel with excellent corrosion resistance to heated sulfuric acid and other aggressive environments such as flue gases. It is used in food processing, pharmaceutical industry and also heat exchangers.
AISI 254 SMo – Steel with excellent resistance to corrosion cracking and pitting stress. Used in highly corrosive environments, and in marine-cooled equipment and plants. Good resistance to sulfuric acid.
